CIRCLE OF CARE: 

CLIMATE ACTION GROUP (CAG):

  • CAG initiates and participates in local and global activities that raise awareness about the destructive effects of fossil fuel consumption, and attempt to change behavior by both citizens and politicians. Current highlights: follow the discourse on the "Drawdown" project (a plan to end global warming) and participate in the "Northampton Blue Community" project. 

  • How to engage: Attend our meetings (every two weeks after the Sunday service) to learn about local events, initiatives and demonstrations.

HAMPSHIRE COUNTY INTERFAITH HELP FUND:

  • The Interfaith Help Fund provides emergency financial assistance to residents of Hampshire County who have exhausted their own resources. Most common needs are for those facing electric shut-off, eviction, or inadequate heating fuel.

  • How to engage: All assistance is given via phone call at this time, and there are currently no volunteer opportunities. Donations are tax exempt, and checks can be made out directly to Interfaith Help Fund and mailed to the USNF office.

INTERFAITH EMERGENCY COT SHELTER:

  • The YRUU Youth Group provides meals to the shelter every second Sunday from November to April. 

  • How to engage: Come cook & serve with the Youth Group one Sunday per month!

PASTORAL CARE VOLUNTEERS:

  • The Pastoral Care team welcomes all members of the congregation to  offer an occasional meal, ride, or other assistance to other members in need.  You'll get a call or email and can offer your help if it works for you.  If not, they'll contact you again for another opportunity to help.

  • How to engage: Jump in to offer meals, rides, or other forms of care.

SUNDAY SERVICE HELPERS (Sunday Jobs):

  • It takes a community to put on a Sunday service and you are a part of it!

  • How to engage: Service helpers greet people, light the chalice at service, serve coffee at Social Hour, and contribute to the Sunday service in various other ways.

RE TEACHERS and ASSISTANT TEACHERS:

  • We have a Faith Development program for people of all ages. Our teachers are community members that share their interests, skills, and expertise, while deepening their connections to faith and our community.

  • How to engage: Volunteers help with teaching, assistant teaching, leading activities, and organizing (behind the scenes).

TRAIL CLEANING TEAMS:

  • USNF has adopted the bike trail section between Veterans Field and Pleasant St.  We clean up the trail to make it a pleasure and treasure for walkers and bikers.

  • How to engage: Come pick up trash with us during the warmer seasons. It takes about an hour.  There are several options for days to go:

    • First Sunday of the month - after the service, about 11:15.  Team Leader Gail Gaustad
    • Second Tuesday of the month at 8:00 AM.  Team Leader Anne Lombard
    • Third or Fourth Wednesday of the month - late afternoon.  Team Leader Ellen Dickinson

WELCOME TEAM:

  • The Welcome Team consists of people who make a special effort to welcome visitors and newcomers on Sunday Mornings during the community greeting and during the social hour. Welcome Team members can be identified by their pink name tag.

  • To engage: All are welcome to become part of this team on Sunday mornings before, during, and after the service.
