Board Report October 2021

Amidst the many challenges of our times, we are grateful to begin this new year together. So many members of our community have made it possible for us to connect and re-connect in various ways - outdoors, indoors, and virtually. The efforts of a very long list of persons are appreciated by all of us as we support and engage with one another, bringing us together while we maintain healthy distances.

The Board has been working closely with Janet and our staff as we navigate recent and imminent personnel changes. We are grateful for our new hires! Johnny Williams, who started in August as our new Youth Group and Young Adult Coordinator; Michael Taylor, who started just yesterday as our new Manager of Congregational Operations, a redefined and expanded role, and Ellen Cogen as our new Music Director who will begin in December. (Want more details? Look for the separate emails sent out about each of these talented individuals.)

We will miss the talent, skills, and expertise of Lisa Britland, our steadfast Administrator for the past decade, and Lemmy Gurtowsky, who has blessed us with his music this past year. A variety of guest musicians are being secured for Sunday morning worship services this fall until Ellen begins.

Appropriately at this time, the Board is also addressing personnel policies and procedures, ensuring that we update our practice. Our Personnel Manual is being revised in consultation with persons knowledgeable from the field of Human Resources.

Our faith in each other, our congregation, and our denomination will serve us well as we move forward into a new year full of promise and hope.
